MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - On Tuesday, Moss Point was introduced to Jason Davis before he becomes the city’s next fire chief.

Davis has served as a firefighter for the city of Biloxi for 25 years. Mayor Fofo Gilich joined Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight in celebrating Davis’ new position.

His appointment was announced two weeks ago.

Mayor Gilich expressed kind words about Chief Davis to the Board of Aldermen.

Then, Mayor Knight invited current firefighters on stage to join their new chief in taking the oath to the city.

Knight says he is excited about Davis’ experience

“You know we’ve had a lot of ins and outs with our chiefs,” Knight said. “And we hope that he’ll bring some stability, some structure, and I’m sure he’ll do that. The men over there are looking forward to that. The men want that kind of structure, and Chief Davis is going to be able to bring that structure to our department.”

Chief Davis said he’s optimistic about serving the River City.

“You know, the sky is not the limit. I feel like great things can happen here in Moss Point,” Davis said. “We have some good people here in Moss Point not only to protect, but we have some firefighters that are serving already, and so we want to come here and be a part of that team and make Moss Point even better.”

His first day on the job will be June 4.
