Teen run over by car after “reckless behavior” with other teens, Ocean Springs police say
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) — A teen was run over by a small SUV after “reckless behavior” involving the car, according to the Ocean Springs Police Department (OSPD).
OSPD said around 8 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to reports of a juvenile being struck by a vehicle on Johnson Street.
When officers got there, they spoke with witnesses at the scene. OSPD said it believes that three teens— ages 14, 16 and 17— were “engaging in reckless behavior” involving a Jeep Liberty.
Witnesses reported that one of the teens attempted to get into the back of a moving car, lost his grip and fell beneath the car. The car rolled over him, and he was severely injured.
The teen was stabilized at the scene by emergency responders and taken by ambulance to Ocean Springs Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to USA Health in Mobile, Alabama.
He is now listed in critical condition.
OSPD said Friday morning that all parties involved have been cooperative with the investigation, and no arrests have been made.
The incident remains under investigation by OSPD.
