WPD: Driver of unloaded logging truck leaves scene after being struck by train in Wiggins
WIGGINS, Miss. (WLOX) — First responders in Wiggins were called to action on Tuesday after an 18-wheeler was struck by a train at the crossing on 1st Street South.
After arriving at the crossing, which is found between East 5th Avenue and Mill Avenue, firefighters with the Wiggins Fire Department found the train stopped on the tracks with no visible damage.
The train crew told investigators that the 18-wheeler crossed the railroad tracks without stopping, leading to the train’s engine colliding into the rear portion of the trailer. Only minor injuries were reported among the train crew. No one required an ambulance.

The truck involved left the scene on multiple flat tires before first responders could arrive. Officers with the Wiggins Police Department later found and stopped it. The driver told investigators that they were heading south on 1st Street South when they saw the train coming and tried to beat it across the tracks after realizing they couldn’t stop in time.

The driver was not injured during the crash, but they are being charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
The crash remains under investigation by Wiggins PD.
