Verizon users report service issues amid possible outage

(Gray News) - Verizon customers across the U.S. are reporting service problems, indicating a possible major outage.
According to DownDetector, Verizon users began reporting problems around noon Jan. 14. About an hour later, nearly 200,000 users reported issues with the service provider.
About 66% of the reported problems have involved customers’ mobile phones.
Customers are reporting they have no service and that their phones are in SOS mode.
The outage appears to be impacting customers nationwide, with users reporting problems in Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina and Texas.

Verizon said in a statement on X that it is aware of “an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers.”
“We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience,” the statement said in part.
In a statement released an hour later, Verizon said that its engineers are continuing to “address today’s service interruptions.”
“We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible,” Verizon said.
About 1,800 T-Mobile customers and 1,700 AT&T customers reported issues with signal and 5G home internet at the same time Verizon customers first reported problems, according to DownDetector.
T-Mobile said in a statement that there are no problems with its network and that the reported issues customers are having stem from Verizon’s outage.
“T-Mobile’s network is keeping our customers connected, and we’ve confirmed that our network is operating normally and as expected,” the statement read. “However, due to Verizon’s reported outage, our customers may not be able to reach someone with Verizon service at this time.”
