HARRISON CO./JACKSON CO., Miss. (WLOX) - South Mississippians can recycle their Christmas trees at multiple locations in Harrison County until January 10 and in Jackson County until January 31.

Mississippi Power is partnering with the Harrison County Beautification Commission for the annual program. Four collection sites are located along Highway 90, with a fifth at Plant Watson in Gulfport.

  • Pass Christian Harbor
  • Long Beach, east side of the harbor
  • Rodenburg Avenue and Highway 90 in Biloxi
  • Courthouse Road Pier in Gulfport
  • Mississippi Power Plant Watson, 10406 Lorraine Road in Gulfport

“We’re once again so proud to be partnering with Harrison County and the Harrison County Beautification Commission,” said Jeff Shepard with Mississippi Power.

Trees must be live trees with all decorations removed. Flocked trees are not accepted. Residents must remove all lights, tinsel, and ornaments before dropping off trees.

The trees will be mulched, and the mulch will be used at parks, walking trails, and garden beds throughout Harrison County.

“It’s a great way to help the taxpayers and the county’s not having to spend money on mulch and different things like that,” Shepard said.

The program runs from December 26 through January 10, giving residents flexibility.

“You don’t have to do it right away. If you want to enjoy the Christmas spirit a little bit longer, please do,” Shepard said.

In a separate recycling program in Jackson County, trees can also be brought to the following locations for disposal:

  • Jackson County Rubbish Site, 10501 Seaman Road, Vancleave
  • Jackson County Recreation Department, 5400 Ball Park Road, Vancleave
  • Jackson County West Roads, Highway 609, 6900 Washington Avenue
  • Jackson County East Roads, 10825 Highway 63, Moss Point
  • Jackson County Fairgrounds, 2902 Shortcut Road, Pascagoula (East end of the parking lot)

Jackson County’s program will run through January 31.
