The Biloxi Shuckers banged out 9 hits, three of those hits were home runs to pull away from Pensacola before 1,706 fans at MGM Park Wednesday night.
Michael Choice led off the bottom of the second with a single off Pensacola pitcher Rookie Davis. Dustin DeMuth stepped up to the plate and he delivered a two-run blast off the scoreboard that propelled the Shuckers to an early led.
Shuckers starting pitcher Taylor Williams who had his fast ball sizzling at 96 mph went 3 1/3 innings before he was relieved in the top of the fourth inning. Williams gave up 2 runs on 1 hit with 6 strikeouts.
Josh Uhen relieved Williams and Shed Long would blast a three-run home run over the right field wall. Uhen pitched 2 2/3 innings. He gave up 2 hits with 3 strikeouts.
The Blue Wahoos added a single run in the top of the 8th and in the bottom of the inning, the Shuckers provided the fireworks that were expected on the Fourth of July. Michael Choice had 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, none bigger than his two run home run in the 8th inning that gave Biloxi a 5-4 lead. Clint Coulter followed that up with a solo home run and the Shuckers were three outs away from victory.
Ace closer Matt Ramsey would get the job done. He picked up his 20th save on the season. Jorge Lopez (4-6) who has a new role as a reliever, posted the win.
Game three of the five game series is set for 6:35 p.m. Thursday at MGM Park.
