HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) — Congressman Mike Ezell held a roundtable Thursday morning to brief local business owners on President Donald Trump’s budget bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Overtime pay and business expenses were at the center of discussion.

Under the new law, overtime pay for hourly workers is tax-free. Ezell called it the most important piece of the legislation.

“You’re going to be spending money, earning more money, you’re going to have more money in your pocket,” Ezell said. “It’s going to go a long way for all the working men and women of this country.”

The bill also allows business owners a 100 percent write-off on certain expenses.

“No taxes on that is going to be a game changer,” Ezell said. “It might help you be able to buy a house. There’s so many good things going on that’s coming out of this that are permanent.”

Ryan Goldin, who runs his own business and works with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, attended the event and said he left with new information.

“There was a lot of stuff that we heard today that I had no idea about, like the 100% expenses write off,” Goldin said. “I hope that other people are able to have the opportunity that I did to be able to hear about how fantastic the bill is.”

Ezell said he hopes Mississippi residents stay informed so they don’t keep any money on the table.
