MGCCC remembers football player Marcus Dickey before Thursday night game
PERKINSTON, Miss. (WLOX) - Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) memorialized student, football player and Biloxi native Marcus Dickey with a moment of silence before Thursday night’s football game.
The 22-year-old passed away in a car accident on Sunday afternoon.
After the coin toss at A.L. May Memorial Stadium, the team walked Marcus’s jersey over to his family, who accepted the jersey with tears and hugs.
The jersey was signed by all his teammates.

“He was doing so good,” Gulf Coast football coach Jack Wright said. “He was the kind of kid who was the first one in the meeting, one of the first guys out at practice, one of the hardest workers in the weight room. He always had a big ol’ smile on his face. He was everything you would want out of a teammate. Everything.”
Dickey was a transfer defensive lineman from Nicholls State. He was born in Biloxi and was a standout player at Biloxi High School.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Marcus Dickey,” said Dr. Mary Graham, president of MGCCC. “Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, teammates, and coaches during this very difficult time.”
Counseling and assistance will be available to MGCCC players and staff.
Dickey Brothers Memorial Funeral Home in Biloxi is handling the arrangements.
