There is a Heat Advisory is in effect for South Mississippi counties: Pearl River, Hancock, Harrison and Jackson until 6 PM this evening. The heat will stick around for the foreseeable future, so Heat Advisories could be a daily occurrence.
The temperatures may be in the 60s but strong wind gusts are making it feel a little cooler outside. If you’re headed out on the road this morning, drive carefully because all of that wind is causing sand to blow up on parts of Highway 90.
A direct hit from the storm’s center in Florida is unavoidable and they will face major direct impacts. Meanwhile, South Mississippi will be spared the worst even though we'll be too close for comfort.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered in coastal and low-lying areas along the Panhandle, including at least four counties and parts of Panama City. Other locations in the state are under voluntary evacuation.
