There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Pearl river County until 5 PM. A Flood Watch has been issued for South Mississippi with 3-5″ of rain possible through Thursday. Because of the rain and cloud cover, our highs will only reach the low 80s. On and off showers and storms will be possible tonight into Thursday morning. Any additional rainfall will make flooding a high possibility. Most of the rain will exit by the afternoon hours Thursday. Highs will be in the mid 80s.

We have had a lot of rain in the past 24 hours in South Mississippi. Highest amount have been in the four to six inch range. Here lies the potential problem; because we’ve had so much rain, more rain will add to our flooding and flash flooding potential. We expect a little sunshine, clouds, showers and thunderstorms for Wednesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, we have a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for strong to severe storms which could include: flooding rain, hail, and gusty winds will be possible. Once the front moves away from the area, a drier pattern is expected to settle in over the weekend. Slightly lower humidity and cooler mornings.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting an above-normal Atlantic Hurricane Season for this year. They say that it will likely be an above-normal amount of storms due to an ongoing La Nina pattern as well as warmer than normal sea surface temperatures.
