The city of Biloxi honored the first woman to become a battalion chief of the fire department Tuesday night at its city council meeting. Michelle Crowley is retiring after being one of only three women in history to work in the department. She says she worked hard to rise through the ranks from a rookie to a battalion chief. Crowley says that while she hopes to slow down her workload in her retirement, she will be opening her own consulting firm for grant work and is working to introduce presumptive legislation for firefighters and police in the state capital.
