Allegiant Air ends Gulfport to Orlando service

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Another airline is pulling out of the coast market. Allegiant Air announced Friday it will end its Gulfport to Orlando service in January. The company says the route just wasn't profitable.

Customers with reservations January 7, 2009 and beyond will be contacted by Allegiant for a full refund. The airline dropped its Las Vegas route last December.

"After being in the Gulfport-Biloxi community for well over a year, we have been unable to make our service economically viable," said Maurice J. Gallagher, Allegiant Air President and CEO. "We greatly appreciate the efforts of the airport management team, as well as the support the community has shown us."

Allegiant Air began service from the Gulfport Biloxi International Airport to Las Vegas and Orlando June 1, 2007. Allegiant Air is based in Las Vegas.
