A Vancleave man was arrested Friday night for the murder of another man last year.

Authorities arrested David John Cannon, 41, at a video store in Vancleave. Cannon is accused of murdering Thomas Earl Beasley III, 37, last April.

Beasley's body was found beaten to death in a pond in Monroe County, Ala., about a week after the murder occurred. Investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force say the two men met at a club in Moss Point on or around April 26th, and they believe that's the same night Beasley was murdered.

"We believe that they got into some type of altercation," Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said. "It is believed that they left the bar together, the Miss-A-Bama Club in Moss Point, and they got into some type of altercation during the night in which Mr. Beasley was killed."

Beasley's family reported him missing after they hadn't heard from him in a week's time. Janice Moore, Beasley's mother, says she's relieved her son's death is finally being resolved.

""I'm just glad to know that now maybe we can have some closure, and my other sons can on with their lives," Moore said. "We can have some closure to this, and at least sleep at night, because it's been very hard."

Moore became concerned when she didn't hear from her son in a week's time, and she knew something was wrong when he didn't call on mother's day.

"I started trying to contact him and couldn't get any information. The neighbors hadn't seen him. His father hadn't seen him."

Investigators say they received a phone call a couple of months ago that lead to other clues in solving Beasley's murder. David Cannon is being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center, and is expected to make his first court appearance Monday.
