Storm shelters open across Gulf Coast ahead of Gordon

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Several county residents looking for a safe place to ride out Tropical Storm Gordon will be able to take shelter at various locations.
Hancock County
Hancock County Emergency Management Agency is opening the Kiln shelter at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 4 in partnership with the American Red Cross and MS Department of Human Services. The shelter is located at 18320 Highway 63.
County Farm Road 361 Shelter will open at 3 pm Tuesday, September 4. The shelter is located at 15038 County Farm Road Gulfport, MS 39503.
Jackson County
The Central Jackson County Shelter in Vancleave. The emergency shelter, located at 5500 Ballpark Road, will open Tuesday, September 4th at noon. A second shelter will be opened at 18413 Hwy 63 in Hurley.
Do Bring:
- Bedding, a pillow
- A change of clothing
- Medications
- Your child's stuffed animal, blanket or other "lovey"
- Your emergency kit
Don't Bring:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Illegal drugs
- Weapons
Remember, most shelters do not allow you to bring pets, so make arrangements for your animals before coming to the shelter.
Harrison County officials say they're ready, if necessary, to open a shelter. But that decision will come later, as we get closer to Gordon's landfall.
