HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport man is charged with felony first-degree murder for the death of Amber Barnett, who has been missing since February. A body was found Thursday in a wooded area of Harrison County is believed to be Barnett, although that must still be confirmed through DNA analysis.
Authorities have been looking for Barnett since February 22 when she was reported missing by her family. Police initially said they had no reason to suspect anything suspicious, but Barnett's family and friends knew otherwise. They said she just wouldn't have disappeared without a trace.
This week, their worst fears came true when search dogs found human remains in a wooded area west of Cemetery Road, north of George Ladner Road.
Investigators say Wayne Claude Adams was the last person to have contact with Barnett. He's now being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $1 million bond. More arrests are expected.
