New Popps Ferry Causeway Park now open
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The gates are open and the public is finally invited to explore the Popps Ferry Causeway Park in Biloxi. It has essentially been decades in the making for the city, ever since the first piece of land was purchased there by the city in the 80s.
Eventually, the ten-acre site was developed into this serene park that puts visitors right in the middle of nature. The transformed wetlands are home to a series of new boardwalks that wind in and out of marsh grasses and run alongside the bay.
There's a dock for boaters, an open-air pavilion, and a bait shop that will soon open. It even includes kayak rentals and a kayak launch. It's something that has curious passersby excited.
"I pass by it hundreds of times on the way to and from work and I'm really excited that it's finally open," said Nathan Coldsnow as he explored the grounds. "I wasn't sure what it was, but I'm really excited even more that it's open to the public and we can all enjoy it. I think it was an excellent use of the space and I hope they find more spaces like this to develop."
The park hours initially are going to be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those hours are subject to change, though.
