Stormy, then "cold" front could bring small taste of fall this week

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The WLOX First Alert Weather Team is tracking a cold front that will bring the chance for thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday, then perhaps a small taste of fall Thursday and Friday mornings this week.

The wettest days appear to be Monday and Tuesday. A combination of a cold front, ample moisture, and day-time heating will produce scattered showers and storms. A few of these storms will be efficient rain makers with locally heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding.

It is very difficult for cold fronts to make it this far south in August, however, model trends continue to suggest slightly cooler and drier air filters in by late Wednesday into Friday. If this happens, it will make mornings on Thursday and Friday quite pleasant, with some model data suggesting temperatures drop into the mid to upper 60s north of I-10.

The mornings may be nice, but the afternoons will still be hot with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Just a little hint from Mother Nature that fall is not too far away.
