MS Department of Education releases state testing results

MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Education released numbers on state testing results from the 2017-2018 school year. The results show the percentage of proficiency or competence based on five levels, from lowest to highest proficiency.
The Mississippi Academic Achievement Program (MAAP) test measures academic growth among students in English, Language Arts, and Mathematics from third to eighth grade.
The state’s goal is for 70% proficiency by the year 2025. According to the numbers, overall the scores are below 50%. But 65% of Biloxi students were proficient in math, which is 5th in the state. Ocean Springs had 58% proficiency in English, which is 4th in the state. Long Beach ranked 9th in the state for English proficiency, and Pass Christian ranked 10th.
The percentage in the levels show the percentage of students who are proficient in that level. The levels are from lowest to highest. For example, Level 1 and Level 2 are considered low grading. Level 3 is considered average grading, and Level 4 and Level 5 are above average.
