PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - There's only one way to go for the Pearl River Central Blue Devils and that's up after last season's (1-10) finish.

New head coach Jacob Owen hopes to build a winner. He returns to his alma mater from Poplarville, where he led the Hornets high powered wing-T offense.

With Owen serving as offensive coordinator, Poplarville averaged more than 400 yards rushing per game in 2017. Owen's key to success is making sure his team can push through adversity.

"Like Mike Tyson said, everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth," Owen said. "Everything is great right now, but when something negative happens are they going to second guess or doubt, or are they going to remain positive and keep grinding and working hard."

The Blue Devils aren't that far removed from success. Just three years ago PRC won the Region 4-5A Championship. Now Owen has the players believing they can return to the top.

"Coach Owen came in and said that he wasn't taking any impressions from the old coaches or he didn't care about last year he said it's all about us this year and how we believe and buy into the program," said Kobe Whitehead, Senior RB/LB.

The Blue Devils open the season this Friday night at Hancock.
