PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - We're learning a bit more about the murder suspect arrested in Pascagoula last week after a standoff with police.

The Los Angeles Police Department tells WLOX News Now that Raymond Preston is a suspect in a June 3 murder that happened at 51st St. and Town Ave. Investigators couldn't give any more details on the crime, or what may have brought Preston to Mississippi. But the address given for the crime scene is for the South Park Recreation Center in Los Angeles.

Jackson County officials say Preston is not charged with a crime in Mississippi and does not have to appear before a Mississippi judge.

According to a report from the LA Times, a man was shot and killed outside that rec center on Sunday, June 3 after an argument.

LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told the LA Times the suspect opened fire with a handgun outside near the park surrounding the recreation center. It wasn't immediately clear if the shooting was gang-related.

One day after the shooting, no one had been arrested and no suspects were named.

Preston is not fighting extradition, so he is waiting for California authorities to come to Mississippi to get him.
