JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Former 3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell is facing new charges after authorities say he tried to sneak drugs into jail.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said the drugs were found by deputies while they were screening incoming mail at the jail. Harrell is currently locked up at Jackson County Adult Detention Center in Pascagoula after being charged with illegally possessing a gun due to previous felony convictions.

Authorities did not say what kind of narcotics it was or who sent the letter to Harrell.

The South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team is assisting with the investigation. If convicted, Harrell can receive up to seven years in prison.
