MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - The eight-member Moss Point High School Tigerettes dance team has been invited to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
It's the chance of a lifetime, but they need your help. "It takes a lot of dedication, opportunity. You'd just have to love to dance to be here everyday to get ready for the big parade," said junior Tylexis Thompson.
The team so much has motivation and dedication that it caught the attention of organizers of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The girls have been invited to perform in front of thousands later this year in New York.
"Our coach told us about it and we was very excited. I think it will be a good idea for us because we live in a small city. So yea it will be a great idea," added senior Jada Fairley.
This is the first time Moss Point has ever been a part of something like this.
The team got word back in June they'd been selected to perform as part of the Spirit of America dance team. That means they'll perform with hundreds of other dancers from across the United States.
The entire trip must be funded completely by September. The total is $30,000 for all eight girls plus three chaperones. "Room fee, our flights, our food, our dinner, our participation in the parade. For us watching the Broadway show that they're having. Our uniform, our jackets. All that," Tylexis added.
It's going to take a lot of people believing in these girls to make it happen. "We had fish frys. Next we have a dance with me, an event where little girls coming to be a Tigerette. We had a kickball game. That was a real good turnout," said Jada.
The team also put in some of their own money. So far, they've raised $15,000. You can drop off donations at Moss Point High School.
