CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (WLOX) - A traffic stop for a minor violation on I-10 ended with a man and woman from Moss Point behind bars on drug charges in Louisiana.
Louisiana State Police said Demetrius Rankins, 43, and Phyllis Williams, 29, were arrested after troopers found $45,000 worth of cocaine in their car Wednesday.
A Facebook post from LSP says Rankins and Williams were pulled over on the interstate in Calcasieu Parish for following a vehicle to close. A search of the vehicle uncovered 5 pounds of the drug, according to LSP.
Rankins and Williams are charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule II narcotics. Rankins' bond was set at $50,250, and Williams' was set at $25,000.
If convicted, each suspect will face two to 30 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines.
