PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - An upgrade is coming to the Pascagoula-Gautier school district's Aaron Jones Interactive Center, and it's all thanks to a grant competition sponsored by State Farm.
The $25,000 grant will transform the room into a bilingual lending library. The plan is to provide iPad apps and books in both Spanish and English to support the growing Hispanic population in the district.
After 1.8 million votes, the district managed a top 40 finish in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program competition. It was the only grant awarded in the state of Mississippi.
"I am really excited about this bilingual library as a parent educator, and member of the Hispanic community," said one teacher. "I think this bilingual library will be a great asset to this clinic, students, and their families. I love reading, I believe reading is the open gate to a successful education."
Once everything is transformed, there will be an open house. Leaders hope to have the library open by spring.
