Suspect in Gulfport home invasion on the run

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport police are investigating an armed robbery and need your help finding the suspect. Sgt. Damon McDaniel said the crime happened Monday just after 6 p.m. in the 2200 block of 33rd Street.

Police report a black man went into a home with a handgun.

"While inside the residence, the suspect took the victim's purse containing an undisclosed amount of currency and medication," said McDaniel.

The victim, who did not want to be named, told WLOX News Now she was in the back of the house with several other family members when they heard knocks on the door. According to the woman, her sister answered and that's when a man suddenly grabbed her purse and ran.

The victim said they chased the suspect down the street to a back alley where what they saw caught them by surprise. They said the same man was aiming a handgun, and threatening to shoot.

"He ran between two houses, pointing a gun, and the last time we seen him, he was in the alleyway going through the purse," the victim said.

Police said the suspect is around 5'8" with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and jeans. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
