BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - There is confusion in Bay St. Louis over who city leaders want to see represent them on the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission. That uncertainty has led Gov. Phil Bryant to put a hold on approving any appointment from the city.

Monday night, businessman Danny Johnson asked the council to recommend him for the post to replace long-time commissioner Robert Kane.

In January, when Cain was up for reappointment, council members voted unanimously to recommend he remain and sent a letter to Bryant with that recommendation.

The trouble is, in December, Bryant got another letter from Councilman Joey Boudin recommending Johnson fill the seat.

The two letters with different picks gave the Governor pause, and he put the Bay St. Louis appointment on hold until the council clarifies the confusion. We spoke with Johnson Monday.

"It may come down to a legal opinion," said Johnson.

Kane said he would respect the decision of the council and the Governor to protect the integrity of the port and harbor commission.
