GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A developer is interested in building a new casino in the City of Gulfport.

Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes said Mississippi Coast Entertainment wants to develop a casino on the same property that Rotate Black was looking to develop. That property is adjacent to the small craft harbor.

"After many years of working to make this site viable, we now have an agreement with adjoining land owners and a partner who has a strong track record of successful developments in the private sector," said Hewes.

City leaders announced the development Tuesday afternoon. The deal in principal is worth an estimated $140 million. The project will include a casino, hotel, parking garage, performance theater and commitment for a future amenity.

The developer with Mississippi Coast Entertainment is Robert Lubin.

"I want to thank the City of Gulfport for selecting our team for this exciting new gaming project. It is an honor, privilege and opportunity to create a special venue," said Lubin. "We look forward to offering a first rate and fun gaming facility, a beautiful 4-star hotel and being part of something special as Gulfport continues her rise as a City of greater prominence in growth and development."

We are working to get more information on this developing story.
