WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - Although details remain unclear, the Waveland Police Department is investigating a woman's death.

The body of 49-year-old Karen Humphries was found by officials in a home on St. Joseph St. on Thursday. A Crime Scene Unit was sent to the house, which remains secured, and an autopsy was conducted Friday morning in Jackson.

Though police say it will be a matter of time before investigators determine exactly what happened, Chief David Allen released the following statement Friday afternoon:

"The circumstances of Karen's death are not clear cut, therefore, we are proceeding thoroughly and carefully until some questions are answered through interviews, crime scene analysis, cell phone analysis, and an autopsy. This could be an accidental death but we will proceed with due diligence until we are certain."

Allen also noted that there does not appear to be any connection with the Thursday shooting at Barber College on Hwy. 90.
