PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - After flames were seen coming from burn-off stacks at the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery, an area of the plant has been temporarily shut down Friday evening.

According to Jackson County Emergency Management Director Earl Etheridge, a hydrogen sulfide alarm went off inside the plant, though nothing was detected.

Etheridge says officials are following standard procedures and burning off waste gas until they can determine what it is wrong.

At this time, there is no estimate as to how long that area of the plant will be shut down.
