HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - If you are seeing smoke and falling ash near the coast of Harrison County, do not be alarmed. Officials tell us the smoke and ash are from a prescribed burn in Harrison County near Highway 15.
Eddie Baggett, with the National Forests of Mississippi DeSoto Ranger District, tells us the flames from the prescribed burn died down around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Baggett said the smoke and ash you are now seeing is residual from this morning's burn.
He said fire officials are on the scene to make sure there are no flare-ups. Baggett said the burn involved 732 acres. Fire officials used a helicopter for aerial ignition.
