BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi shut its doors Monday night at 10pm, just four days ahead of a self-imposed closing deadline of September 19. The Mississippi Gaming Commission was on site to oversee the closing.
Margaritaville executives had said they were looking for a way to save the casino and keep its 350 employees on the payroll. They said the Back Bay casino needs a hotel to compete in the Biloxi market.
"We were unable to come to an agreement with the landlords. It's unfortunate," Margaritaville Attorney Mike Cavanaugh said Monday night. "The employees will be paid through the 19th."
The owners claimed a lease battle with the casino's landlord made funding that hotel virtually impossible.
