PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - The weekend excitement in terms of competitive fishing isn't limited to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic. In fact, the Thunder's Tavern 12th Annual Suzan Walker Memorial Fishing Tournament set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday offers something for everyone.
The event, to be held at Thunder's Tavern on Market Street in Pascagoula, has a freshwater division and a saltwater division. That means anglers can pursue species ranging from largemouth bass that can be caught in the many rivers and lakes in South Mississippi to king mackerel in the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Other species in the freshwater division includes catfish and white perch.
Of note, the recreational red snapper fishing season in the Gulf of Mexico closes on June 9 with a creel limit of two-fish per person and a minimum size limit of 16-inches.
The entry fee is $35 per person and scales will be open from 2-7 pm on Friday and noon to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
"We are an individual tournament that offers something for everyone," said John "Thunder" Thornton. "We do not have teams fishing or do we require a number of boats to enter. That means anyone can fish and hopefully they will win prizes. We will also have door prizes to give away. We do not have a kids rodeo, but they can fish, too."
Also, the Suzan Walker Award will be presented to the largest fish entered and the Charley Pace Award will go to the most unusual fish.
"We want to invite people to come out and enjoy some good fishing and have a great time, too." Thornton said. "We always have a good time."

Weigh scales for the Billfish Classic will be at the Point Cadet Marina behind the Golden Nugget Casino from 3-8 pm on Friday and Saturday.
