GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - There's a new movie being filmed right here in South Mississippi. And it features some big name celebrities.
Wednesday was day six of shooting for the movie "Loose" and after wrapping up a scene at Palace Casino, actress Meagan Good and actor and director Ty Hodges was the first to arrive at Deedys dress shop in Ocean Springs.
Owner of Deedys Deveaux Carter says a few days ago she was asked to allow a scene to be shot at her business. She believes the location of her business on downtown Ocean Springs' picturesque Government Street and the beautiful décor inside made her shop more appealing to the movie's location manager.
"It's such great advertisement and it shows people what we have to offer. We're a great community with so much vitality," said Carter.
The movie is about bullying and finding yourself. Actresses Ryan Destiny and former Disney star Raven Symone also star in this film along with some local extras. Several other South Mississippi locations were used and will be used for the movie, including Gulfport High School. According to the Mississippi Development Authority's Film Office, more films are being featured in South Mississippi thanks to the diverse landscape.
"You have beaches. You have the nice fine houses. You have upper class stuff and you start looking fifteen minutes and you have a hiking trail," said MS Development Authority Film Office Project Manager Bill Webb.
Webb also says South Mississippi is more accommodating to films than larger cities that are often jaded after years of dealing with film crews.
"It's tough to find a business that will open and let you come to their shop at 8 p.m.," said Webb.
Beyond movies putting South Mississippi on the national and international spotlight, it also puts dollars into coast businesses. No word yet on when the movie will be finished and where it will be released.
