WLOX Editorial: Have a driving plan

It appears business for tourism destinations is picking up. A recent tourism survey indicates 86% of Americans are planning a leisure trip this summer, that's seven percent higher than last summer.

That's good news for Tourism destinations like the Mississippi Gulf Coast since half of all travelers plan to go to an ocean destination. Three quarters of the travelers will be driving to their destinations.

Our visitors along with many of you hitting the road, means high volumes of traffic. More traffic means more accidents, and people getting hurt or killed.

A police officer once said that most traffic accidents are caused by two vehicles trying to be in the same place at the same time. He offered; to avoid a collision, be a courteous driver, keep your distance, and watch your speed. Your driving plan must always be to plan for an accident.

We don't mean try to have an accident; we mean wear your safety belt. That plan has saved many lives of those in cars that regretfully end up in the same place at the same time.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
