Help the United Way help our community

During this Thanksgiving season, most of us take stock of where we are in life and all that we have to be thankful for. One agency on the coast that is attempting to bring the quality of life up for everyone is the United Way.

The United Way Campaign in Harrison, Hancock and Pearl River Counties is at the half way point. The ambitious goal this year is 1.5 million dollars. While that sounds like a lot of money, requests for help are up to five times that amount.

The United Way, through its partner agencies, is attempting to improve early childhood education, promote financial stability for coast residents and improve the health of local residents.

Recently an anonymous donor contributed $75,000 and asked only that the money be matched. Many companies are currently running campaigns and allowing employees to contribute through payroll deduction.

Whether you give that way or just a straight donation, please give what you can. In this time of Thanksgiving what better way to enjoy the season than to make sure all residents are being lifted by the rising tide.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to, or post your comments below.
