BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Democrat Gene Taylor picked up an unexpected endorsement Tuesday in his fight to win re-election as Mississippi's 4th District congressman. Joe Tegerdine, the Tea Party candidate who ran against Steven Palazzo in the Republican primary, threw his support behind Taylor.
In the statement to the media, Tegerdine said, "I did not make this decision because I agree with all of his positions on the issues. I made this decision based on his record of integrity and willingness to be forthright with the people in our district."
He went on to say, "I also considered voting for and endorsing Steven Palazzo. After much thought and deliberation I decided I could not in good conscience support him or the Republican establishment who worked to get him elected. I am confident that Nancy Pelosi will not return as Speaker of the House regardless of who wins in our district and do not want to put our 4th District seat in the hands of a Republican puppet and puppeteers that I do not trust. "

"Well, I think you need to read his letter," Taylor said of the surprise endorsement. "I think he spells it out that he felt like even though we disagree on some things, that I am a straight shooter, that my concerns have been for a balanced budget all along, and that in 21 years I have shot straight with people every time."
WLOX News asked Palazzo's campaign about Tegerdine's endorsement of Gene Taylor. Palazzo sent a response by email that stated, "I am looking forward to holding Gene Taylor accountable for his liberal record and finally giving South Mississippi a voice for conservative values and common-sense in Congress."
