Casino Volunteers Help Child Advocacy Program

Volunteers from Grand Casino spent the day Friday doing yard work.

Casino workers picked up rakes and trash bags and helped spruce up "The Nourishing Place".

The not-for-profit child advocacy program has two locations in Gulfport. It relies on private donations and volunteer help to keep providing assistance to kids in need.

"We do tutoring. We provide food and clothing for children and families. We have put extra teachers in both Pass Road and Central Elementary to do after school tutoring, in school tutoring, music lessons, self esteem building," explained director, Jane Stanley.

Along with its building on Searle Avenue, "The Nourishing Place" is also renovating an old church on Tennessee Avenue. It will be used as a community center.
