BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The Gulf Coast Carnival Association (GCCA) will roll through downtown Biloxi on Fat Tuesday for its 118th year of reigning over Mardi Gras. This year’s theme is “Pop.”

“Pop is a homage to pop art. So you’re thinking Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons. It’s an art theme, not a music theme,” said David Harris, GCCA Captain of Carnival.

The Fat Tuesday parade is the only Mardi Gras parade in South Mississippi that day.

“It’s kind of the big party at the end of our great Mardi Gras season that we all enjoy across the Coast with all our different krewes,” Harris said.

The organization expects over 100,000 people to attend the parade and plans to throw over a million beads.

“We do this for the Coast and for the community,” said Robby Williams, Lieutenant of Carnival.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Feb. 17, featuring 118 units in honor of the organization’s 118th year.
