GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - A Gulfport teen who was shot early Monday morning has died, according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.

Switzer says 16-year-old Terrence Young, Jr. was airlifted to USA in Mobile after the shooting but was taken off life support Tuesday.

Gulfport Police responded to the shooting around 12:04 a.m. Monday, near Indiana Avenue and Jackson Street.

That’s where officers found Young suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital but later airlifted to USA in Mobile.

Gulfport School District confirms Young previously attended West Harrison High School but had recently started attending Gulfport High School. The student body was informed of his passing Wednesday morning.
