GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - A photo of a man wanted for holding a woman against her will and sexually assaulting her in Gulfport last year will soon grace billboards on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers announced Monday that they are asking for the public’s help in locating Sterling Wingo.
According to Gulfport Police, Wingo is wanted for sexual assault and kidnapping stemming from an incident that happened on Sept. 6, 2021. The victim told police she refused to have sex with Wingo and attempted to leave the residence. He allegedly pulled her back into the house and proceeded to sexually assault her.
Wingo does not have any felony arrest history in Gulfport prior to this incident, confirmed Gulfport Police Sgt. Jason DuCre’.
Beginning this week, Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers, in partnership with Lamar Advertising, will run digital billboards with Wingo’s photo in the hopes that someone will come forward with information that leads to an arrest. If that information is provided through Crime Stoppers, there is potential for a reward to be paid out.
