Suspect arrested in connection with Gulfport shooting at apartment complex

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - A suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting at a Gulfport apartment complex that left one woman in critical condition Saturday morning.

Authorities arrested 26-year-old Ja’Quawn Rashad Cleveland and charged him with one count of domestic violence-aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault. Police responded around 6:50 a.m., to Gulf Mist Apartments at 26 Pass Road in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a woman and a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Through the investigation, it was determined that Cleveland went to the woman’s residence after an argument, and shot her. After he shot her, he found the man and shot him multiple times.

Cleveland then left the scene and later turned himself into the Gulfport Police Department. Cleveland was processed and taken Harrison County Jail to be held in lieu of his bond. He bond was set at $500,000.

The man that was shot was taken to the hospital where he’s listed in stable condition, however, the woman is in critical condition.
