STARKVILLE, Miss. (WLOX) - Tuesday night for Mississippi State was just one of those nights where everything started to click down the stretch.
Down by as many as 14 points in the second half against 13th ranked Missouri, the Bulldogs jumped on a 15-0 run in just 5 minutes’ time to take the lead, and sprinted through the finish line en route to a 15-point victory.
Iverson Molinar and DJ Stewart led the way with a combined 44 points. But in order to take down one of the top teams in the entire country, you need more than just two big performances. And according to head coach Ben Howland, that’s exactly what he saw from his team.
“I thought we had great leadership within the team. Abdul, DJ, Iverson, Tolu, all those guys stepped up and played with great passion and fire,” Howland said. “We were so much better in the second half. This is a really good team that we defeated. Top 10 in NET, 13th in the country, they’re definitely an NCAA tournament team. This is a huge shot in the arm for our guys and their confidence level.”
