NEW ORLEANS, Lou. (WLOX) - Not only did the Saints win the NFC South for a division-record fourth straight season, but they did so without dropping a single division game.
Despite missing the entirety of the running back room - including running backs coach Joel Thomas - in week 17 against Carolina, the black and gold earned its second consecutive win by three possessions to pick up significant momentum entering Sunday’s first round match-up with Chicago. Because the game is scheduled for Sunday, that means Alvin Kamara has a chance to play, provided he remains asymptomatic. Paired with the fact that the Saints may also have Michael Thomas back, Sunday could be the closest to full-strength New Orleans has been in months.
“I think if it was the Saturday game he [Kamara] doesn’t play, a Sunday game he can play,” head coach Sean Payton said. “Obviously, anything during the week will have to be Zoomed. I think it would depend on the player and the situation. But yeah, a lot of it will be our decision based on where we think we are with the week, the player and we have to be smart.”
