KVLY-TV reports the victim was found minutes after police were called to Sanford Hospital on a report of a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound. MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - Moss Point Police are investigating a fatal shooting that killed a Moss Point man on New Year’s Eve.

Authorities responded to a “shots fired” call around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night in the area of Richard Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Officers were also responding to the Singing River Hospital on a gunshot victim. Officers then realized that both calls were related.

While at the hospital, officers determined that 22-year-old Javantavous “J” Davison was shot and killed in the incident. Davison had been riding around in a black Honda Civic on Martin Luther King Boulevard, near the intersection of Mill Avenue when when he approached by two men wearing all black, according to authorities. One man fired in the car, which struck Davison.

The driver of the vehicle sped off to the hospital where Davison was pronounced dead.
