HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WLOX) - Another good fight for Southern Miss just wasn’t enough, as the Golden Eagles fell to UTSA 23-20 on Saturday.
Biloxi alum Tim Jones finished with 65 yards receiving and hauled in a touchdown, but of the Golden Eagles’ five trips inside the red zone, only one resulted in a touchdown, with another ending in a failed fake field goal attempt.
Two instances that interim head coach Tim Billings said loomed large.
“That was a tough loss,” Billings said. “I thought we played really hard. Defensively we played really well, we gave up one big play, and then the second drive we lost a bit of momentum. We had some good drives, we just couldn’t finish it off. We just made too many mistakes on both sides of the ball.”
