Self-serve sandbag locations available ahead of tropical weather
SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - In preparation for the possible tropical weather, self-serve sandbag locations are available.
The sites are active and ready to serve and the sites will have sand and bags. Also, those wishing to use the service must provide shovels and fill their own bags.

The City of Gulfport also offered additional self-serve locations with the help of the Public Works Department at the following locations:
- Orange Grove Community Center on Dedeaux Road
- Gulfport Fire Staton on 42nd Avenue
- Intersection of Hewes Avenue and Glover Street
Staff members will be on-site from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. for those who need assistance.
Jackson County will also offer 10 self-serve sandbag locations beginning Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m.

The City of Picayune will be issue sandbags to city residents on Sunday, Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. at 309 Stephens Street. There will be a 10-bag limit per household, and personnel will be available to assist loading.
- Self-serve bagging facilities will also be set up at:
- Leola Jordan Park at 903 E. Canal Street
- First Pentecostal Church at 123 Kendrick Lane
- J P Johnson Park at 403 Rosa Street
- Mildred Mitchell Park at 1901 Daniels Road
- Vacant lot on Pinewood Drive
Picayune Fire Department and Public Works personnel will deliver sandbags to elderly and handicap shut-ins only. Call 601-799-0602 or “311” from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or call the Picayune Police Department after hours at 601-798-7411.
Additional sites may be added as needed.
