LUCEDALE, Miss. (WLOX) - It’s one thing to be the best player on your team, but when you become one of the best players in the state, you’re in rarefied air and McKinnley Jackson is a talent that fits the billing.
On Tuesday, it was announced that the George County defensive tackle was selected as one of six Mississippi “Mr. Football” recipients for the 2019 season, representing Class 6A.
Jackson was chosen from a statewide committee of coaches and media who cover high school football and the number one recruit in the Magnolia State was a no-brainer. The six three, 315 pound senior defensive lineman has collected 69 tackles, including 32 for loss with 10 quarterback sacks for the Rebels. Jackson will lead George County (7-4) on the road against Gulfport (9-2) in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs Friday, November 15th.
The six Mr. Football recipients will be honored Monday, December 2nd at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson at the 4th annual banquet.
