MISSISSIPPI SOUND (WLOX) - Two men are safe after being rescued by the Coast Guard Wednesday near Cat Island.

The boat the men were on became grounded close to the island, which is off the coast of Long Beach and Pass Christian.

According to the Coast Guard, the call came in at 5:40 p.m. that the two men were stranded on the boat without food or water.

The Coast Guard deployed a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to rescue the men. The helicopter arrived at 8:30 p.m. and were able to get the men safely off the boat.

Both men are in stable condition.
