They opened back in 1969 and even rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina.

GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) - Tiki Restaurant in Gautier held its 50th anniversary celebration party on Saturday. That same day, Mayor Phil Torjusen awarded the restaurant a key to the city.

The restaurant opened back in 1969 and even rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. Owner Eddie Thornton said he was shocked and grateful to receive this honor.

“Very excited. We’ve, how do you put it? We didn’t know we had such a loyal customer base for so many years, but that’s who kept us going," Thorton said.

Families who have been dining at the restaurant for decades came out to show their support and said they’ll continue to come as long as Tiki Restaurant is open.
