GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - Thousands of moms will celebrate Sunday with flowers and sweet treats. Mother’s Day is one of the busiest holidays for florists, including Flower Patch in Gautier.
“It’s been really the busiest weekend. We’ve had to cut our system, all of our systems off," said Flower Patch owner Etta Saxton. “I get here at 4 a.m. and leave probably after midnight.”
By lunchtime on Friday, Flower Patch had taken all orders it could handle for Saturday delivery. Roughly 300 arrangements with sweet treats went to deserving moms across the Coast. Sunday was no different, with hundreds of flowers headed out.
“This year I’ve noticed it’s mixed pastels. That’s been the most popular,” Saxton said of this year’s most popular arrangements.
Tulips are one of the more popular flowers for mom, according to Pro Flowers. Carnations and roses also make the list.
The National Retail Federation estimates Americans will spend $25 billion on Mother’s Day this year. Of that amount, $2.6 billion will go to flowers.
If you didn’t make it in time for delivery, picking up a predone arrangement is the second best option.
“It’s easy for me to do flowers," said Timothy Finney Jr.
“Rose. She likes any kind of flower," added Jams Lanham.
Forty-five years in business, and Saxton said Mother’s Day just keeps getting busier and busier. Her second busiest holiday is Valentine’s Day.
